T. Ellis Art Exhibition at the Houston Museum of African American Culture

You are invited to become a sponsor of the Ted Ellis & T. Ellis Art Exhibition at the Houston Museum of African American Culture this April through June of 2016.  This is a historical event, celebrating the life work of over 25 years of art by Ted Ellis.

About the Artist

The Houston Museum of African American Culture is presenting a powerful exhibition celebrating Houston resident and nationally recognized artist, Mr. Ted Ellis.  This is a big year for African American arts lovers.  In Houston, Mr. John Guess, the current CEO of HMAAC is stepping down after his 6 year tenure which has elevated the museum with national attention for its qualitative exhibitions and meaningful educational programming. This year also marks the year that the Smithsonian will open the African American Museum of History and Culture in Washington DC on the Smithsonian Mall.  John Guess is going out with a bang with a dynamic and important exhibition honoring Houston artist, Ted Ellis.

Ted Ellis has represented Houston in a stellar manner as he has taken his works across the country, earning national accolades and establishing both an artistically important and historically relevant legacy for the art world and American history.

Ted Ellis is a New Orleans born, Houston resident who created a new genre of art by fusing Folk Art and Impressionism.  A self taught artist, Ted tells the story of African American history through his images from rural southern slave and farming scenes to urban sophistication and black affluence, he captures moments in time powerfully.

T. Ellis Art has been commissioned by major companies and organizations including Walt Disney Studios, Coca Cola, Philip Morris.  Some of his most noted collectors include Spike Lee, Brad Pitt and Roland Martin, as well as, countless businesses and discerning individual collectors.  His works have been exhibited at the French Embassy in Washington DC for the Inauguration of President Obama in 2008 and in the halls of the U.S. Senate.

He has won numerous awards and best of show through the years and has worked tirelessly to advocate for arts education in economically depressed communities across the Gulf Coast.

Ted Ellis is a national treasure and the people of Houston are going to come out to celebrate their hometown historian and artist.
